[SF] once upon a december

Violet has been having a recurring dream lately.
It starts a bit differently every time, but the basic setup is the same; always in a ballroom of some kind, an opulent palace or the oval clearing of an enchanted forest or a room that seems to be filled with the night sky itself. Violet dances with a handsome, shining prince, one whose features she sometimes thinks she can almost-but-not-quite see (a flash of brown hair, a twinkle of light brown eyes, a flicker of a smile). The pair of them dance, the only people in the world, years of practice making the graceful steps as natural to Violet as breathing.
Violet looks away, just for a second, to execute a flawless turn. She looks back with a smile, about to say something (she can never remember quite what).
Suddenly, her dance partner's face is clear, smiling at her condescendingly, knowingly, possessively.
It's him.
Even now, it's always him.
Violet jerks awake in a cold sweat.

idk what exactly caused me to draw this except that i was listening to once upon a december from anastasia and got super inspired for some reason because thats just how the cookie crumbles

i experimented with a few different things and put in more detail than ive usually been doing lately and RLY LIKE HOW IT TURNED OUT so that's nice

as i so often do, i feel like there was more to say here but i am forgetting SO
